Controlling Odor from Adult Diapers

There is only so much a scented candle can be expected to achieve.
Lingering odor from disposed adult diapers is no joke and not something Yankee Candle's Fresh Linen scent can begin to handle.
The problem is exacerbated when the disposed adult diapers belong to a loved one who is still quite capable of caring for themselves, including changing their own absorbent underwear - but unfortunately their olfactory nerve is caput.
Their sense of smell has naturally diminished with age, in some ways a tender mercy, but the deadening of the olfactory can also be a disservice to an elder's dignity.
You know they would never want to alienate friends and relatives with the odorous atmosphere, so how do you help them out with this problem?
A good quality stainless steel pedal or step trash bin placed in the bathroom would be a good start.
A number of models are readily found at places like Walmart or Target.
Make sure you find one that has a well fitted lid to discourage escaping odors.
Line the removable inner bin with a trash bag before use and keep old plastic grocery bags or large ziplock type baggies handy for when your patient does a change.
Sealing the soiled underwear in one of these before tossing it into the trash is the most effective step in controlling odor
If you have some extra money and want to experiment with a task dedicated apparatus, The Diaper Genie II, go ahead.
Not to be confused with its predecessor, the original Diaper Genie, this new and improved version has been claimed to do well with medium sized adult diapers.
However, one has to not mind the ongoing expense and trouble of purchasing specific refill baggies.
(See the Diaper Genie II here).
As you work it all out, it is good to remember that you are not the only one dealing with this less than pleasant challenge.
