Washing and Caring for Compression Stockings
Your new wardrobe addition of compression stockings requires a little special care so that you can get the best and longest life out of them.
- Hand wash your stockings in lukewarm water.
- Use a gentle detergent, preferably a brand recommended for washing baby wear.
- Do not use bleach or fabric softener.
- Gently "squash" the stockings between your hands to remove excess moisture – no "wringing-out".
- Air dry the stockings. Spread on a flat surface over a towel or drape over a smooth rod. (A smooth plastic hanger suspended from the shower head works well.)
- Replace your stockings with new ones every 3 to 6 months. A stocking’s compression ability naturally diminishes over time with normal wear and tear. To ensure that you continue to wear effective support, it is good to have enough pairs on hand to cycle through regularly, so that you do not put undue strain on one or two pairs.
