Wearing and Using Compression Stockings
The prospect can look a little daunting when you first pull those small looking new stockings out of the box and stare down at your legs.
Don’t worry; the job can be done with some ease if you follow a few pointers.
- While seated, place your foot on a small kitchen stool. (The stool will be an invaluable part of your dressing routine so keep one handy in your bedroom.)
- Wearing cloth gloves is recommended to avoid nail digs in the stocking
- If your stockings are the toe-less type, wearing a thin sock or plastic baggie on your foot can greatly assist the sliding on of the stocking in the next step. The sock or baggie can be pulled back off over the toes once the stocking is in place over the foot area.
- Turn the compression stocking inside out as far down as the heel and draw it up over your foot like a sock.
- Making sure that the stocking is not twisted, slowly work its ascent up the leg, distributing the stocking’s mesh evenly.
- Once in place, the upper lip of the stocking should not be doubled over. Keep it flat and smooth.
- Do not sleep in your compression stockings unless indicated by your doctor.
